Make To Innovate

Students identify daily problems or inconveniences in their life and design and build an original solution. Students will learn basic 3D design and printing techniques as well as basic construction techniques.

Priority Standards

This quarter students will focus on the following three design standards from the International Society for Technology Education Standards for Students

ISTE 1.1A Students articulate and set personal learning goals, develop strategies leveraging technology to achieve them, and reflect on the learning process itself to improve learning outcomes.

ISTE 1.4C Students develop, test, and refine prototypes as part of a cyclical design process.

ISTE 1.5A Students formulate problem definitions suited for technology-assisted methods such as data analysis, abstract models, and algorithmic thinking in exploring and finding solutions.

Students will document progress toward proficiency in their middle school portfolio. Please ask your child to share this site with you.

Learning Experiences

 Digital Creation

Students will learn to design and print in 3D as well as laser engrave so the skills can be applied to their personalized project design as needed.

 Production Lab

Students will learn the purpose and safety surrounding the hand and power tools found in our production lab. These skill will be applied in the personalized project design.

Product Design

Students will learn more about the design process and the basics of product design.

Personalized Project Design

Students create an original or improved design that will solve a problem or challenge they face.

Self Paced Learning

Students will use Google Classroom to manage our self-pace, proficiency based learning resources. The middle school Makerspace program has been re-designed to ensure that students receive the support they need as they are empowered to explore and innovate. Using the Modern Classroom Project model, a research backed instructional model used in thousands of classrooms worldwide, students work in an environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, self-reflection, exploration, and perseverance fostering advocacy and a true love of learning.
